About the piece
Rossi got interested in using digital photography for creating painting-like images early on. She finds her theme to be a search for punctum, that which irritates the eye: some form of hide-and-seek between the image and the viewer. Photo sessions are dialogues as well, and the basis of this very image was taken during one of those. The creative moment occurs already in the making, not solely in the product. The remaining photo is partly a ruin of an earlier moment, partly a gateway to new interpretations.
About the artist
Milja Rossi (b. 1989) is an artist based in Stockholm. Rossi is currently studying her second year in cinematography at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. She sees film as her profession and photography as her passion even though they easily link with each other. She grew up in Turku but is for now based in Stockholm. In photography it is the mistakes, dead pixels and collage which she is drawn to. Her latest interest is exploring how cinematography can be practiced outside traditional screens, which has taken her towards performing arts and Virtual Reality.
