About the piece

Ivar uses straight brush strokes at opposite angles to build a painting body on the canvas. The strokes form slabs that are stacked like heavy metal blocks and this creates a weight balance in the painting that might be described as a static movement. The artwork Nr 6, 2017 resembles both influences from landscape painting as well as abstract elements – with a color scheme made of specific shades of yellow, blue and green.

About the artist

Ivar Lövheim (b. 1983) is from Skellefteå but is currently based in Gothenburg. He is attending the five year BFA+MFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts) program at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, going back and forth between the studio in Gothenburg and the school in Stockholm.

Ivar is seeking flow and velocity in his painting practice and wants to be able to work without obstacles between thought and action. Looking for a technique that could accomplish that – he found the air brush. This tool has the same properties as the pencil when it comes to creating a flow and it doesn’t run out, as an ordinary brush does, so you can cover large areas of painting before you need to refill. This facilitates a total focus on the painting process.
