About the piece
Isabella Ståhl’s motifs are often those of different states of nature. The motif in Back in the mists of time is of an early morning in Ljusdal, Hälsingland in Sweden. An early bird flying off in the morning mist. Ståhl is fascinated by the mystic feeling that some images can evoke, and claims that different shades of mists enhance the mystic character of a place or space. It is a work being, at the same time, static and full of nature’s movement. In Ståhls works, one can see traces of her interest in dark forces in nature and the power it’ll bring to the viewer – as well as the notion that without sun, water and air we as humans wouldn’t exist.
