About the piece

Coral was taken in Alicante, Spain, at a rocky shore, where corals are lying around, dried by the sun. Salomonsson was visiting her first love – her boyfriend of the time – and she asked him to place his hand inside of the coral for her to be able to shoot this image – it was very sharp and left marks on his forearm. Despite this, Salomonsson never sees him in this image. What she sees is an anonymous, loving, safe and kind hand, a person that is doing something for someone else, the contrast between the barren dead and the warm and soft. It’s something about the shades, the structure of the coral, that makes this image one of Salomonsson’s personal favourites. The photo is taken with an analogue Contax T2 with 35mm film Portra 400 that she often brings with her in her pocket. The photo is a part of her continuous documentation and collecting of images that emerges organically in the moment.
